Dear Parents/Carers

It gives me great pleasure to write to you as the new Headteacher of St Joseph’s RC High School, and to welcome you to what I am sure will be a very busy and exciting year ahead

It gives me great pleasure to write to you as the new Headteacher of St Joseph’s RC High School, and to welcome you to what I am sure will be a very busy and exciting year ahead. I am commencing my post having been Deputy Headteacher at the school for four years. Prior to that I worked as a School Improvement Adviser for Newport Local Authority and have previously taught and worked in schools across South Wales.

I am very proud to be the new Headteacher of St Joseph’s RC High School, and to leading a good school onto further successes. We are proud of the achievements of our school and its young people but not complacent. I am determined to secure an outstanding future for the school which builds on our dedicated teaching and support staff, our amazing students who are justly proud of their school and our excellent partnership with you as parents /carers. I have the very highest expectations of all the students and staff, and it is my intention by

working together with you, to continue to raise standards, helping all students to achieve their God-given potential and to grow as well rounded young people who are tolerant, strive for social justice and, through our community of faith, continue to develop their relationship with God.

As part of our drive to raises standards, I would request your full support as parents/carers in ensuring that your child attends school punctually every day, and that they are fully equipped and prepared for the day ahead. In particular I would ask that students wear their St Joseph’s RC High School uniform with pride at all times, both in school and on the journey to and from school. Ensuring that students attend school dressed smartly in school uniform is the foundation for high standards in other aspects of school life, including a positive attitude towards learning and behaviour.

As well as introducing myself as Headteacher and setting out my expectations for the school in this letter, I would also like to report to you the fantastic achievement of last year’s A level and GCSE students. 88% of our pupils left year 11 with 5 or more GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C and 100% of our year 13 students achieved the Level 3 Threshold with 54% achieving A*-B grades. I should like to take this opportunity to warmly congratulate all of our students on their remarkable success and to wish them well in their A levels, further study

at university, or employment. We will celebrate the success of our students at GCSE and A level in our  ‘Celebration of Excellence’ event which will, this year, take place in December to enable as many of our former students to attend on their return from their first term at university.

I look forward to meeting you all parents over the course of the year, and to working in partnership with you to achieve a highly successful outcome for your child.

Yours sincerely

Mr T Brown
