The Governing Body is the admitting authority for St Joseph’s RC High School. St Joseph’s RC High School admits up to 240 pupils into each year group. This standard admission number is set by Governors in accordance with the capacity survey completed by Newport City Council and the Welsh Government. If there are more than 240 applications, Governors will use the over-subscription criteria set out in the Admissions Policy.

Completed applications must be returned to:

Closing date for applications: 5pm, 13 November 2024
Applications received by the above date will be considered together and places allocated.
Decision letters will be issued on 3rd March 2025*
*This is a common offer date across Welsh Admission Authorities. These dates apply to all Newport Secondary Schools in accordance with Welsh Government School Admissions Statutory Code No 005/2013.
Applicants MUST also apply for alternative schools through the NCC - see link below.

Pupils who do not currently attend St Joseph’s but would like to express an initial interest need simply to email Mrs Ryan at pryan@sjhs.newport.sch.uk to register their details.
We will require your name, address, contact number and school you currently attend. If you wish to arrange a visit and a tour of the school, this can also be organised.
Next steps
- After your GCSE examinations you will be asked to attend an interview in early July as part of the admissions process.
- You will be asked to bring with you your most current academic school report. Subject to a satisfactory school report and GCSE grades, you can expect to be accepted into the Sixth Form and will be invited to the enrolment day in September.
- To access Level 3 courses, pupils must have a minimum GCSE attainment of 5 C grades or above (Level 2 Threshold).
