Mission and Purpose

Serving God Through Learning Together

St Joseph's RC High School exists to serve the Catholic community in providing an education for our young people within a faith environment, grounded in the vision of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to ensure that all are able to realise their potential, take their responsibilities seriously, respect themselves and others and grow in the love of God. We aim to serve each other, the Church, parents/carers and the wider community.

We recognise that every person is created in God's image, and we value every individual as an equal with unconditional acceptance. We strive to create an atmosphere where each person is inspired, encouraged and supported to the highest levels of educational achievement.

The core purpose of St Joseph's is Serving God Through Learning Together.  This philosophy is at the heart of everything we do for each member of our community.

SJHS Catholic Pupil Profile

Our Catholic Pupil Profile is set guidance by which the virtues, taught by the Catholic Faith, are expressed in the schools of our Diocese. Based on the Jesuit Pupil Profile, they help us inform our young people, and the whole community, about positive ways we can live our lives, to help our minds and characters become ‘good’.  'Good at being human’ is a main goal of Catholic education, and our tradition helps us see that in order to achieve this, we need to educate our minds, hearts, words and deeds in goodness.
At St Joseph's, we use the Catholic Pupil Profile virtues in all areas of school life to instil positive behaviour through reward marks, celebration evenings, whole school events and charitable fundraisers, assembly themes, collective worship and our pastoral behavioural system. We believe in a holistic approach to the education of our learners.

“What can we say the kingdom of God is like? It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing in the soil, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet once it is sown, it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade.”  Gospel of Mark 4:30-32
